Indie rock band The Happy Fits are back with a new single, “Everything You Do.”
Released Thursday, the song serves as their first new material since their 2022 album “Under the Shade of Green,” which was their last album with guitarist Ross Monteith. In his place, touring members Nico Rose and Raina Mullen were promoted to full-time members of the band.
Mullen and Rose make their contributions heard immediately. Along with rollicking guitar riffs, they give frontman Calvin Langman someone to harmonize with, and it sounds sublime.
While Langman’s lead vocals bring a carefree groove, Mullen surprises as the song’s secondary vocalist, bringing spunk and a giddy scream in the first chorus.
In addition, Luke Davis’s drumming is as effortlessly tone-setting as ever, giving the song a bouncy energy that makes the listener want to dance along.
The lyrics detail a pure love connection that takes the narrator’s complete attention, with nothing else mattering as much in comparison. The narrator is willing to drop everything just to get their love interest to reciprocate their feelings. In short, it’s a charming take on how it feels to fall in love.
“Everything You Do” appears to mark a new era for The Happy Fits and successfully establishes Mullen and Rose as vital additions to the band. It’s an exciting time to be a fan, as it feels like they’re just getting started.
