Hartlepool five-piece Marketplace have announced their debut EP, Marketplace Mean Business, set for release on June 6th, alongside their energetic new single "Contact Sports".
Produced by Chad Rodgers (Benjamin Francis Leftwich, Cape Cub), "Contact Sports" is a bright, guitar-driven track that captures the exhilarating uncertainty of new romance. Blending indie, alt-pop, and rock influences, it delivers vibrant melodies and a euphoric, infectious energy. Frontwoman Evie Rhodes explains that the track is about budding romances where you’re trying to convince yourself it’s not serious, and the band took inspiration from The Beths’ scrappy, sincere love songs, capturing the same lighthearted honesty.
Drawing influence from Alvvays, Declan McKenna, Pulp, and Talking Heads, Marketplace—Rhodes, Joel O’Beirne (vocals/bass), Jack Purcell (guitar), Matthew Short (synth/vocals), and Ross Dixon (drums)—combine their individual styles into their fresh, signature sound.
