New Jersey act Kayla Janowitz aka After Ours weaves upbeat vibes and a vengeful feel together on “One Last Time” giving us a glimpse of new seven-track record Imaginary Friends. Rooted in intense emotions and an eclectic sonic blend, the track is poppy yet explosive elevated by playfully macabre visuals.
The video which unfurls a tale of saying goodbye to a hot-and-cold lover for the final time, the indie-tinged track is rooted in a touch of nostalgia. On the track, Janowitz says, “One Last Time is the first song I wrote that I felt stoked about—I’ll never forget that feeling. I recorded a voice memo, threw it in GarageBand, and the demo sat in my computer for a while. Three years later, I rerecorded it with Josef Kuhn, and we gave it the zhuzh it deserved. It’s one of the first songs that really felt like After Ours.”
Having grown up surrounded by a diverse range of musical influences, Janowitz’s signature musicality spanning punk, jazz, alternative, and classic rock rings with equal amounts of quiet familiarity and freshness as she gears up towards her upcoming project.
