Rila’s Edge unveil “Undone,” an indie-alt-rock number brimming with a reflective yet energetic feel. Rooted in a smooth blend of old-timey rock and roll with an expansive indie chorus, the track manages to balance a quiet tenderness with anthemic flourishes.
A carefully built offering that opens with an understated sense of melancholy before moving slowly and steadily into a pleasing but explosive instrumentals before fading out into fuzzy guitars, bold drums and yearning vocals then finishing off with a soaring note, the track keeps us on our toes with its experimental sonic style.
Speaking of the poignant lyrics, band member Ollie Henin says “The lyrics were written when I was suffering with depression and feelings of low self-worth. I had also just entered my first proper relationship and was completely in love. With those two events happening, I kept thinking about how people say ‘you need to love yourself before you can love someone else’. I felt like that statement didn’t ring true for me at the time and I hadn’t ever heard anyone dispute the saying before, so I decided to write about how love and low-self worth interact.”
Framed by climactic alt-rock sensibilities and hazy grunge touches, the layered track takes a new direction for the band who have made a name for themselves with their high-octane indie rock.
Backed by a loyal cult fanbase and a penchant for experimentation, Rila’s Edge consisting of Alfie Harris, Ollie Hedin, Jacob Green, George Maclean and Charlie Kennedy continue to stamp their powerful presence on the the UK indie scene.
