Ja the Poet and Sully Beatz explore loyalty in dark new single "Trust"

“Trust” is the lead single off their EP, POV (Point of View) — a collaborative project by Chicago lyricist and rapper Ja the Poet and Texas-based producer Sully Beatz.

The track immediately captures attention, opening with a steady beat and a soulful sample repeating, "Who can I trust? Who can I trust?" Ja the Poet follows with a poignant question: "When the hands turn cold too soon?"

As Ja begins rapping, his emotions are on full display, with lyrics that paint a vivid picture of learning tough lessons. On writing the lyrics for “Trust,” Ja the Poet shares:

“‘Trust’ is a reflection of what it feels like to watch loyalty fade in real-time. The lyrics are raw, personal, and born from real situations—when you give your all and still get left in the cold. The hook sets the tone with a soulful sample asking the question we all feel at some point: ‘Who can I trust?’ This track isn’t just about betrayal—it’s about growth, learning, and cutting ties to protect your peace.”

“Trust” lyrically and sonically captures a dark, eerie vibe, set against a trap-like beat that draws you in, making you lean in closer to absorb what Ja the Poet is speaking about.

The duo complements each other's strengths seamlessly, and based on this track alone, it’s clear they’re just getting started. Their potential is undeniable, and this collaboration is only the beginning.
