Trey Ewald navigates the chaos of modern love in infectious new single, "EVERY OTHER MONTH"

Trey Ewald has seen his fair share of hits, and in his new single, "EVERY OTHER MONTH," he’s crafted a song that’s as relatable as it is wildly infectious. Bringing together the jangly, reflective harmonies of early 2000s boy bands and the bold sonic textures of Jon Bellion, Ewald serves up a triumphant anthem for anyone who has ever gotten stuck in the revolving door of modern dating.

From the first beat, "EVERY OTHER MONTH" is a time capsule of the pop golden era but with a modern twist that stops it from appearing retro. It’s the kind of song you want to sing along to on the first listen, propelled by layered production, and one that’ll stick in your head long after the song ends.

Ewald draws an unfortunately familiar portrait of relationships that are only transient and signals that are always mixed. A rom-com from a series of dismal dating experiences ultimately finds a way to collect such emotions into sharp storytelling, a personal confusion reconstituted into a shared experience. Though it may have sprouted out of a tone of exasperation, the song radiates upbeat energy that will make heartbreak a little easier to dance through.

This release continues Ewald’s creative collaboration with writer/producer Kayla Jo. The two have a successful backstory together, having worked on his 2022 single All My Friends Are Getting Married. Their chemistry shines loud and clear on "EVERY OTHER MONTH," which is another example of their ability to create radio-ready, heart-melting pop.

Ewald, a Long Island native now making waves in Los Angeles, has an established résumé as a songwriter, with millions of streams to his credit. But now, with this solo era, he’s demonstrating that his voice deserves at least equal time. "EVERY OTHER MONTH" is evidence that Ewald’s more nuanced sound, combining slick production and raw honesty, is also weaponizing.

As "EVERY OTHER MONTH" hints at what’s next for Ewald as an artist, one thing is his knack for transmuting the madness of real life into anthemic gold isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. I look forward to even more surprises in 2025, but for now, press play and allow "EVERY OTHER MONTH" to furnish the score for your next emotional roller-coaster ride.
