Qing Madi Crafts Her Era with I am the Blueprint (Interview)

With the release of her debut album, I am the Blueprint, Nigerian singer-songwriter Qing Madi delivers a genre-blending masterpiece filled with emotional depth and sonic innovation. As an artist who thrives on storytelling and experimentation, Qing Madi offers an unparalleled listening experience—one that perfectly aligns with her “afro-delulu” style.

Rising from local acclaim in Benin City to international recognition, Qing Madi acknowledges the competitive yet supportive nature of the African music scene. She embraces the growing global impact of female artists in the industry, striving to be a voice for young women in Nigeria. As she anticipates her album’s reception, she remains focused on staying true to her artistry and the universal language of music.

In an exclusive interview with EARMILK, Qing Madi reflects on the explosive growth of Afrobeats and the genre’s increasing global recognition. She acknowledges how, in the past, only a handful of Afrobeat artists were able to break into the mainstream, but today, the landscape has shifted.

“Right now, you could list a bunch of Afrobeat artists. It wasn’t like that back in the day. There were very limited Afrobeat artists that could cross over. So I’m just super excited that now there are even names you can mention, and there’ll be more names, and I’m proud to be in a set where I get to also be in a movement. I haven’t been doing music professionally for a long time, but in the short time that I have, I’ve created and been able to accept immense love, and I’m very grateful.”

With I am the Blueprint,  Qing Madi cements herself as an artist to watch—one who transcends genres, emotions, and borders. Her ability to blend storytelling with sonic innovation sets her apart in today’s evolving music landscape.

Tracks like “Ali Bomaye” weave themes of love and empowerment, likening her partner to a protector in the spirit of Muhammad Ali, while “Garden” transports listeners into an intimate, dreamlike escape. Her music reflects personal growth, authenticity, and a deep connection to her journey. For Qing Madi, music is more than just sound—it’s a deeply personal and transformative experience. She strives to create songs that are not only authentic and truthful but also resonate deeply with listeners.

“I just want my music to embody the truth and authenticity. I want them to be like, she was an actual artist. Like, you know, people listen to music for many reasons, I’ve learned. Some people listen to music with weird lyrics for the beat, for the melody, for the drums. And then there are people that actually dissect music, and they have a personal relationship…I just want to be that artist that people could say, ‘I listened to Qing Madi, and she saved me.’ That’s the kind of music I want to create, and that’s the kind of artist I want to be.”

With I am the Blueprint, Qing Madi aims to bridge the gap between artistry and emotional connection, crafting music that leaves a lasting impact on those who truly listen.
