Ear Ringers find themselves ‘In the Past’ on new single

Los Angeles-bred indie rock band Ear Ringers released their newest single, “In the Past,” on Wednesday.

This new single only marks the beginning of the band’s work in 2025. They are set to perform more new and unreleased music at their first show of the year on Friday, as teased on social media.

A lone guitar riff opens the track, followed by a beaming synthesizer that sets the tone. The interplay between Jesus Mendoza, Miguel Estrada and Daftnet Mendoza throughout the track, bolstered by David Bravo’s dynamic drum fills and Daniel Romo’s groovy bass make the song one that must be danced to.

The relatable story the lyrics tell enhance this feeling. The song follows a dysfunctional relationship where one party is trying to appease the other to their own detriment, while the other is needlessly complicating matters. The song seems to be written in hindsight, as the protagonist describes the situation as being both in the present and the past. Perhaps they are deciding in real time that the situation is hopeless and to move on.

“In the Past” entails new material from Ear Ringers that seeks to progress from the tone of their 2022 debut Heart Therapy by showing that they are putting in the effort to work on themselves. The results are sure to be interesting.
