Atticus Roness hits the sweet spot with “Not The One (I’m Looking For),” a fuzz-happy nugget that connects the dots between ’60s psychedelia and 21st-century power-pop wizardry. From its opening bass riff, provided by Radley Fenimore, the track grabs you like a waist-deep memory that’s a little familiar but still just thrilling enough. It’s a polished-for-today sonic time capsule, bursting with raw energy and earworm-worthy melodies.

Produced and engineered by Caleb Heiple, perfected in the mix, and mastered by Christopher Alan Yates, the song is pristine with a gritty edge. The pulse of Stephen Grubb’s drums serves as a propulsive backbone, and Roness’s signature touch across guitars, keys, and vocals weaves a nearly irresistible tapestry of sound. “This is the best track on the album,” Roness declares, and it’s tough to dispute.

The song encapsulates a bittersweet position of yearning met with rebellion, a sentiment multiplied by the Beatlesque harmonies and playful leavening of the instrumentals. It’s the power pop purest, “too pop for rock and too rock for pop,” as Roness aptly defines the genre.

“Not The One (I’m Looking For)” also indicates Roness’s more wide-ranging ambition for his upcoming album, a love letter to the growth of power pop. By tapping into the genre’s roots and putting a modern spin on them, he makes the song feel timeless and fresh.

For lovers of sunny chord progressions and expertly wrought musicianship, this song is a call to arch your back and kick up your heels in pursuit of the delights of power pop once more. By its infectious energy and undeniable charms, “Not The One (I’m Looking For)” confirms Roness as one of the genre’s torchbearers.
