Antigua-based indie-folk artist Joshu reflects on identity, childhood, and home in his latest single, "holding on". The first release from his forthcoming EP way back home, the track is inspired by his 2019 Atlantic crossing—a transformative journey retracing his path from England to his Caribbean roots.
Raised in Antigua & Barbuda, Joshu blends indie folk with Caribbean rhythms. His music reflects a life shaped by contrasting worlds, drawing on influences like John Martyn and King Short Shirt. With "holding on", Joshu examines the complexities of belonging. Is home where we’re born, where we grow up, or where we feel connected? As a second-generation white man in the Caribbean, he reflects on being asked, “where are you really from?”. Written in Guatemala and finalized in Antigua during lockdown, "holding on" is a tender meditation on identity and the past.
With way back home releasing in January 2025, Joshu will follow with intimate shows in the Caribbean and Europe.
