Mild Minds announces forthcoming sophomore album GEMINI and releases title track via Foreign Family Collective

Mild Minds has announced his sophomore album GEMINI, set for release on February 21st, 2025, via ODESZA's Foreign Family Collective. The announcement of the record arrives in tandem with the release of the album's title track "GEMINI."

Where Minds' 2020 debut album MOOD represented a creative revelation and risk-taking departure from his behind-the-scenes work, GEMINI emerges as a testament to that artistic leap's rewards. The title track "GEMINI" follows the recently released "TEAR DROPS," offering listeners insight into an album that brings together sounds typically confined to club genres and recontextualizes them. Centered around a chopped R&B vocal loop and emotive chords, "GEMINI" pushes forward with a unique linear structure where no section repeats. The track's staggered groove draws from future garage while creating its own distinct identity, resulting in a trance-like forward motion that sets the tone for the album's sonic direction.

"I think ["GEMINI"] was the first song I started for the album a few years back and the song that helped define the direction of the album," shares Benjamin David. "I had been going through a garage phase (still am) and I thought it would be cool to combine and collage sounds from different late 90's to early 2000 club genres. From the R&B vocal chop to the ravey leads, i dont think any section of the song repeats itself which is a little wild. At some point I got stuck on arrangement and Simon Lam jumped on to help finish it.  I've always loved Simons's work with Kllo so it was so fitting to have him along for this particular tune."

The latest installment in the story waiting to be told with GEMINI demonstrates Minds' ability to craft intricate, emotionally charged compositions that resonate on both cerebral and visceral levels with his listeners. As he dives into his sophomore album cycle – the album, singles, and impending tour follow a remarkably productive period for Mild Minds. Earlier this year, David launched his own record label, MOODS INTL., expanding his influence within the industry and providing a platform for both emerging and established artists. Additionally, his collaborative project LUV HRTS with Victor Pakpour of Ruby Haunt has garnered significant attention.

Mild Minds' genre-defying approach has drawn comparisons to luminaries such as Bonobo, Maribou State, Caribou, and Four Tet, while maintaining a distinctly unique identity. 'GEMINI' is set to be the next defining moment in Mild Minds' trajectory, further cementing his status as one of electronic music's most innovative and emotive voices.

Pre-order the album now on vinyl and stay tuned to the socials below to not miss upcoming releases from the album coming this February.
