Opening with an acerbic and zestful declaration brand new four-piece Westside Cowboy from Manchester, England possess a youthful zeal and energy that accompanies their penchant for magpie musical cherry-picking on their label debut single, "I've Never Met Anyone I Thought I Could Really Love (Until I Met You)".
The quartet settles into their groove quickly and there is no time to waste. Unlike the unwieldy length of the title the song itself is a brisk sub-three-minute mash-up of country feel, straight rock, and lo-fi power pop vibes. Recently signed to UK label de jour Nice Swan (SPRINTS, English Teacher and Pip Blom). This initial calling card comes pretty fully formed with neat dueling vocal lines, contemplative verses, and roaring guitar riffs that squall around the lyric describing new love and burgeoning adoration. There are reminders of Arcade Fire at the jubilant and raucous start or the similarly north-west rooted, multi-vocal force Gomez from the late 90s and noughties. Whilst spotting a linage helps identify sounds it doesn't manage to sum up the band's ecstatic rise and word-of-mouth praise gained from live shows and it makes the Spring 2025 release of their debut EP all the more mouth-watering as they continue to hone their writing and own sound.
