Dublin-based indie band Still Blue has unveiled their latest single, "Brushstrokes," marking a significant step in their rapid rise. The track showcases a shift towards a more organic, indie-folk sound, characterised by warm acoustic guitars, atmospheric electric layers, subtle piano, and swelling strings, all beautifully complementing the emotive lead vocals.
Written by frontwoman Nicole Lyons, "Brushstrokes" explores the complexities of relationships, capturing the tension between idealised love and reality. Lyons describes the song as one that flowed naturally, its deeper meaning only becoming clear after some time. “It’s about seeing a relationship for what it is, not what you want it to be,” she explains.
Recorded at Black Mountain Studios with producer Alex Borwick, the track benefited from the return of cellist Kait Cullen-Verhauz, adding depth to its lush arrangement. It's safe to say that Still Blue is solidifying their place as one of Ireland’s most promising indie acts.
