Indie band Under The Rug has introduced their latest single, "laugh a lot," as part of their upcoming two-part album, Happiness is easy. The single presents a tongue-in-cheek anthem that skillfully balances the lightheartedness of life with its intrinsic anxieties and terrors.

Frontwoman Casey Dayan delivers a profoundly personal narrative in the song, recounting the time spent as a closeted trans person in a motel room. Interestingly, the sight of a cockroach on a lamp becomes a source of comfort, highlighting the unexpected sources from which we can derive solace. Dayan reflects, "So many times I've woken up into the worst parts of my life and laughed, and I think that's beautiful somehow. That tension, between the awfulness and the laughing."

"laugh a lot" adeptly navigates the delicate balance between strength and self-pity, capturing the nuanced interplay between joy and sorrow. The theme of finding humor in hardship resonates deeply, making it a poignant addition to Under The Rug's body of work.

The band's upcoming album, Happiness is easy, further explores themes of joy, resilience, and the human experience, blending indie, folk, and Americana in their signature style. Co-writers such as Sam Hollander and Mason Jennings, alongside expert production by David Peters, aid in its creation. The album promises a rich and insightful musical journey.

Hailing from Austin, Under The Rug is renowned for their unique and sincere storytelling, a quality that has captivated their dedicated fan base. Their DIY marketing approach, which includes handwritten letters and their exclusive membership service, The Secret Hideout, has further endeared them to their fans. Endorsed by John Darnielle of The Mountain Goats and praised by notable publications, the band has made significant strides in the indie music scene.

With the highly anticipated release of Happiness is easy Part 1 and a headlining US tour scheduled to commence in August, Under The Rug is set further to inspire audiences with their genuine and evocative music. Their latest single, 'laugh a lot,' demonstrates the band's ability to uncover light in the darkest places, a journey of resilience and creative evolution that continues to inspire.
