The Allergies are a Bristol-based two-man group made up of DJ Moneyshot and Rackabeat who have been setting dancefloors on fire since their 2016 debut and are now working on their fifth album Promised Land.
In the meantime, the duo has recruited Ghanaian afro-futurist artist K.O.G, aka Kweku Of Ghana, for their first single of 2024 titled "Koliko."
The track is an energetic funk/dance/afrobeat-infused jam that is ripe with electrifying funky guitar licks, prevalent bass-driven drums, warm pads, and hypnotic African percussions to match.
The energetic backdrop is a perfect canvas for K.O.G's blend of English and Twi (local dialect spoken in Ghana). He uses his booming voice as a medium to pass socially conscious messages ranging from self-determination to respect. "Koliko" is a Twi term meaning toy and K.O.G uses this parallel to show what it means to be used as one, but he is not backing down from a fight.
The accompanying visual employs retro-visual elements and was shot on location in Ghana with K.O.G in the field. It captures the artist's authenticity as we see him within his community, showing love to everyone regardless of their background. Viewers also get to see the wonderful landscapes and great people with lively energy in the beautiful West African country.
"Koliko" is lifted from The Allergies' forthcoming album Promised Land, which boasts features from LA rap legend, Andy Cooper (Ugly Duckling), Marietta Smith (House Gospel Choir) and yet-to-be-named guests from across the globe.
