Prolific indie rappers Passport Rav and Bloo Azul and Spanish Ran have joined forces to create a retro-tinged project entitled 83,Too. The 12-track body of work boasts production from Sherman, Passport Rav, Retrospec, Wavy Da Ghawd, Don The Jeweler and The Standouts who craft cinematic backdrops for the rappers to paint over. The emcees are true students of the game and pay homage to all the legends that came before them with their stylish and no-holds-barred raps with a touch of nostalgia. Now the trio is back with another visual from the project in the form of the song "One Time", a jazzy piano-laden boombap track underpinned by bravado raps from Passport Rav and Bloo Azul. It's the simplicity that gets me as the duo interpolates a classic hook from the '90s into something refreshing and memorable.
As for the visuals directed by Haile Films and edited by Passport Rav, viewers are taken into the mix of the action as we see the trio in their element. Shot in black and white on location, we follow them through their stomping grounds and get a glimpse of their live performance style. At the same time, the overall cinematography pays homage to the legendary Digable Planets.
