Geographer's "Got It Wrong" is a stunning visual piece that explores the dynamics of relationships [Video]

Geographer is an American synth pop and indie rock band formed by Mike Deni in 2007 in San Francisco, after relocating from New Jersey. The band's style is a mixed bag of contemporary music, soul, and electronic pop with a distinct off-kilter twist. With 2 EPs and a full-length project under the notch, Geographer returns with the visuals for "Got It Wrong"- which is taken from his new album  A Mirror Brightly. The track is a heartfelt and introspective deep dive into complex relationships, and the dynamics that keep changing, growing and regressing as time passes by. Over a sparse cinematic orchestral backdrop made up of rich layered pads, solemn keys, scenic violin arrangements and pulsating synth bass-lines, Mike delivers a soul-stirring vocal performance steeped in solemnity and nostalgia.

The accompanying visual was conceived by Deni himself with Director of Photography, Christian Klein who teamed up to create a moody backdrop for an IKEA-inspired commercial that follows the relationship between an individual and his lamp. The storyboarding is also inspired by Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters and uses a live play style of set piece to bring the theme to life.

The album is mostly self-produced, but he also recruited the help of Taylor Locke (Rooney, Linda Thompson, The New Pornographers), James Riotto (John Vanderslice, Samantha Crain), and Daniel Chae (Run River North) for some finishing touches. The record will include already released singles, “The Light In The Dark,” “Learn How To Lose: Act 1,”  “Everyone,” “The Burning Handle,” “Van Halen,” “I Don’t Remember It Starting,” “One/Other” and “You Never Know.”
