Brighton's music scene gets a lively boost as Goo Records partners with Music Venue Trust (MVT) to curate a dynamic fundraising live album. Featuring ten local bands, including The Wedding Present and emerging talents like Hutch and ĠENN, the album captures the essence of Brighton's music scene in 2023.
Tony Bartholomew and Dorian Rogers, founders of Goo Records, were inspired by the city's evolving music landscape, turning this compilation into a celebration and snapshot of the thriving scene. All profits from the album go to MVT, supporting grassroots venues in Brighton & Hove, safeguarding these vital cultural hubs.
Sally Oakenfold, Creative Director at The Hope & Ruin, stressed ongoing challenges faced by venues, highlighting MVT's crucial role in helping them navigate issues like financial constraints and potential noise complaints.
David Gedge from The Wedding Present, a Patron of MVT, emphasised the need to nurture grassroots venues, contributing a track to the project, and Dan Shepherd of Hutch expressed gratitude for Brighton's supportive live scene, underlining the project's role in giving back.
Distributed on clear blue sea vinyl, CD, and digital platforms via Republic Of Music, this album not only encapsulates Brighton's musical diversity but also invites listeners to contribute to the resilience of its grassroots venues, underscoring the unity needed to preserve cultural legacies.
