Toronto-based JUNO Award nominated roots-rock artist Devin Cuddy offers up a collection of stories about people from all walks of life, and different eras in time on new album Dear Jane.
Written on both sides of the pandemic and drawing from the strength of human interaction, the nine-track collection solidifies Cuddy’s roots rock and country musicality framed by engaging yet unapologetic storytelling.
Opening with the groovy stylings of “Come Back To Me,” and “Jack Song,” the album moves into slower melodies like the honeyed “Dear Jane,” and emotive “Bleeding Kansas,” before uplifting “Hold On Tight,” wraps around us.
The album is intensely anthemic as it approaches the tail end with layered final track “Lord’s Watchful Eyes,” making for a soaring end.
Speaking of the album, Cuddy says, "I found that during the pandemic I was unable to write, unable to find inspiration. I later realized that what I was missing was human interaction. I am inspired by peoples stories, their lives and the interaction of sharing those things, and without that my creative output was next to nothing. So in a way, this record is an homage to that feeling and that process of writing. It is a roadmap to the people and places I get to experience playing music and traveling for a living.”
With the album celebrating Cuddy’s gritty yet melodic artistry alongside charismatic stage presence, he establishes himself a force to be reckoned with.
