Basel, Switzerland-based indie project Malummí has been threading a new path with their blend of folk, pop, and punk-infused records which was introduced to the world on their debut album Blood back in 2021. Now the duo is preparing to release their sophomore album The Universe Is Black which sees the duo venture into a broader alternative rock sound while retaining their core folk-pop foundations. With "Bones", they incorporate shoe-gaze and alternative rock into their repertoire to deliver a warm, nostalgia-inducing piece that is bolstered by positive songwriting with lines like "If I could, I would bury my bones here. I feel so good, I could stay happy all my life" that tap into the concept of creating one's own happiness regardless of the situation. Overall, the track has a rich guitar arrangement, distorted riffs, soft hushed bass-driven drums and warm pads all underpinned by soul-stirring laidback melodic vocals that linger on even after you stop listening.
The accompanying visual makes use of somewhat abstract and engaging motifs, performance shots with expressive aesthetics and set pieces that keep viewers engaged from start to finish.
"Bones" is the second single from Malummí's upcoming album, The Universe Is Black,' set to be released on November 17 on Irascible Records.
