Multi-talented producer Koppe shares his new project Tactics of Mistake, a 6 track instrumental body of work that threads together a handful of genres and a whole lot of experimental sounds. The project is quite intense with its cinematic aesthetic and score-like arrangement but overall for its layered production.
The project kicks off with “Under Siege”, a piece with rapid percussion arrangements and slowly builds up into a frenzied drum groove layered with brooding textures. At 7 minutes long, listeners are taken deep into this dark intriguing world that is unpredictable and expansive. The extensive use of aural effects, panning and layered arrangements really make it distinct and the overall urgent feel is maintained throughout the record. Next up is “Signal The Flare”, a track that is fitted with a pounding drum groove and cinematic aesthetic that is both moody and ominous. The transitions are well-crafted and seamlessly blend a wide array of sound design techniques into one. The urgency is quite noticeable and listeners again will be drawn into the mix with its scenic and engulfing pads. The aptly titled “Forest Tactics” is another interesting piece that is made up of ethereal pads that swirl around the ears. This is also bolstered by the soft subtle progressions comprised of atmospheric synth-leads and rich percussions that cut through the mix. Overall this is as cinematic as they come and sounds like one is traversing through the thick woods while being hunted by an unknown predator.  “AL-0223” has a change of pace and style from the previous tracks and employs the use of crisp synth leads, distorted arpeggiated noise, and warm and moody atmospheric pads that are automated to pan widely at certain points. That aural effect sure makes it distinct and adds depth to the overall feeling.

The project closes out on an interesting note with the rousing “Penetrated Artery” and scenic  “PN-14K”.  “Penetrated Artery” is a vibrant and energetic track that takes elements from Industrial sounds and  Drum and Bass. The drums are thumping and drive the groove but also play alongside the layered and ominous sound design that rises and falls as the track progresses. The best part is the way ebb and flow techniques are used to create tension and resolution in the record. “PN-14K” sounds like a scene straight out of a horror sci-fi flick. The brooding pads, subtle stabs, distorted white noise, and pulsating synths all come together like white on rice to create this tense and mesmerizing feeling of terror.

Overall Tactics of Mistake, is as cohesive as can be and the immersive approach is undeniable. Each track stands out with unique elements that thread the line between noise and industrial sounds,  extensive aural effects, and that intense feeling of trepidation aligned with its retro cold-war-inspired cinematic imagery.
