Rising San Francisco-raised singer-songwriter Cate Tomlinson first caught our ears with her celebratory single "Twenty-One" earlier this year and now she returns with her new effort titled "so cool so mean". The soft-rock jam is a precursor to her forthcoming EP and showcases Cate's versatility as a singer-songwriter. Backed by a rich guitar-driven and crisp pop production ripe with lush textures and warm pads, Cate gets into introspective mode as she ventures on a journey of self-discovery while daydreaming of a crush in a complex world where nothing is as it seems. It's a cross between blossoming love, self-identity and threading softly around the shifting dynamics of fleeting emotions. Cate sounds at home over the rousing production and her use of lilting inflections and soft melodic runs gives the track a nice touch.
Overall, "so cool so mean" might stray a bit from her previous release but it sure gives listeners a new and refreshing taste of Cate's out-the-box musical style.
"so cool so mean" is taken from Cate’s new EP, Blueberry Season which focuses on seasons of change and self-discovery. Presently she is a Music Industry major at Northeastern University in Boston.
