British singer-songwriter Lizzie Berchie was raised by Ghanaian parents in the East London borough of Newham and was fed on a diet of R&B, reggae and highlife. In time, she developed her own likings and honed her skills as a writer/producer and pianist at the renowned Leeds College Of Music. Her latest release "Don't Get Ahead of Yourself" is the third single from her forthcoming sophomore EP which is currently scheduled for an autumn release. The soulful track explores the concept of not rushing time and just taking it in stride. Over Talos's hypnotic sombre textures, percussions and moody pads, Lizzie delivers an uplifting performance ripe with ear-grabbing melodic runs and lyrics like "Why are you in a rush my love/Don't you know that time is just a figment of our imagination/Why you wanna be grown up? the usefulness has just begun" which dive into valuing one's youth and encourages us to not rush life.

Speaking on the track’s inspiration, Lizzie said: “This song is about taking your time in life. When I look back at myself during my teenage years, I wish I wasn’t in such a rush to grow up, because it’s ghetto out here in adulthood. I wish my younger self knew the value of her youth”

"Don’t Get Ahead of Yourself" arrives just a month after the release of Berchie’s previous single "Flaws & All" and three months later "I Hope". The EP will be the follow-up to Lizzie’s debut EP Under The Sun.

Lizzie Berchie is also headlining her show on the 22nd of October at Omera, London.  Tickets are on sale here.
