Ranchi-hailing, Mumbai-based singer-songwriter, lyricist and music producer Apurva Kedia offers up her debut single “Kusum,” a gentle lullaby crafted as a heartfelt tribute to her beloved grandmother.
Led by her melodic and emotion-drenched vocals drifting over intricate and deep instrumentals, “Kusum,” was penned two months after the passing of Kedia’s grandmother in 2021.
Rooted in the vulnerability of loss and grief yet wrapped comfortingly in acceptance and never-ending love, the soothing and intensely personal production is sure to tug at your heartstrings and remind you of a loved one no longer with you.
Speaking of the track, Kedia says, “When she finally, bravely, passed on, they laid her down. I still remember what I told mom when we saw her. “She’s finally getting her sleep” I said. ‘Kusum’ is my lullaby to her as she sleeps in heaven. Naani Maa, you are loved and you are missed a lot”
Having grown up on the emotive and dynamic quality of old Hindi music, Apurva Kedia’s brand of acoustic folk-pop makes for a tranquil sonic journey that feels familiar and fresh all at once.
