Danish, London-based musician, producer and vocalist Marie Dahlstrom is not green to us and since her debut album Like Sand was released in 2020, she has embarked on numerous collaborative projects and performances from London to Copenhagen. Her new single "The Process" finds her joining forces with long-time friend and collaborator Sipprell and the result is an eargasmic fusion of neo-soul, and R&B with a distinct Nordic jazz touch.
Over the sublime piano arrangement, tucked drums and surreal textures, both Marie and Sipprell deliver their vocals in tandem as they explore the complexities of their art from their respective viewpoints. From the ups and downs, errors and dreams, listeners are given a glimpse of the process and how it's never linear. The accompanying visual is quite engaging and employs a DIY approach that captures both singers in their element without glitz or glamour. The director also uses shaky visual effects and rough transitions that accentuate the raw and unfiltered concept of the song.
"The Process" is the final taste of Dahlstrom's highly anticipated second album A Good Life via her own JFH Records label. The release of "The Process" today follows her recent sold-out headline show at London's 600-capacity Lafayette venue. A Good Life features collaborations with acts including Jay Prince, Conor Albert, Kofi Stone, Cory McKenzie Tribbett and Delleile Ankrah.
