Rose Rose's latest EP, Eye To Eye, is a genre-bending project that infuses alt-pop with funk, disco, and synthwave. Samuel and Pierre, the duo behind the project, are self-taught multi-instrumentalists from Paris and London who have been making music together for a decade. Their love for disco, house, and pop shines through in the EP, which is reminiscent of the French electronic scene of the early 2000s. Their process is a unique one, with an element of secrecy to their production, as the duo explain they composed the EP "between Paris and London and saw “Eye to Eye” as an opportunity to pay tribute to the sounds that made our teen ages whilst simultaneously reinterpreting them. Although we try to stay very private during the final production stages of our music, the early composition stages of “Charlotte” and “Sky Queen” started collectively, involving friends and family in the writing process."
The project's lead singles, "Sky Queen" and "Sugar Hill", have garnered critical acclaim from various publications and amassed over 600K streams on Spotify. The EP ebbs and flows, starting with the soulful lounge-esque pop of "Charlotte" and "Sugar Hill", moving on to the more funk-rich sound of "Sky Queen", and ending with the nu-disco vibes of "Mustang". There's a unique, funk-rich feeling throughout the entire project, as the track progresses between lounge-esque pop and upfront, indie electronica. The standout track is "Sky Queen" which sounds like a peak time, Jungle style banger.
