UK rhyme smith Fliptrix has been on a musical roll since mid-last year, serving up a handful of singles as he prepares for his new album and UK tour. With four singles under his belt, the veteran emcee kicks off 2023 with the visual for the fifth single titled "SM58". The mid-tempo tune produced by Wundrop is made up of moody strings, warm basslines and crunchy drums that rattle the speakers. Always in his element, Fliptrix shows pure brilliance with his versatile flows and vivid lyrics like "burn like a wordsmith, stay determined, put that work in, yeah I'm earning/Lay that trap for the vermin, lay that track for the man who's on that track with Grafter's phat like my word is". He is also joined by fellow High Focus label mates, Onoe Caponoe and Ramson Badbonez, who both deliver the goods with high-energy raps laced with insight and a go-getter spirit.
The accompanying visual takes live performance clips of the trio at different events spliced with shortcut scenes underpinned by smooth and subtle visual effects to boot. It's quite simple and gets the job done.
The track is the fifth single lifted from Fliptrix’s forthcoming ninth solo album, following on from the hugely streamed "Future Ain’t Promised", "Eden", "Primordial Soup" and title track "Mantra No. 9". The album marks 16 years since his first album Force Fed Imagery and sees the boom-bap OG reconnect with the classic sonics that defined his earlier output.
Fliptrix returns to the UK for the ‘Mantra No. 9’ Headline Tour this February / March with shows in Manchester, Bournemouth, Brighton, Bristol & London. Tickets & more info HERE.
