LESS KILLJOY bares all in self-help EP ‘Pink Grenade’

Toronto’s LESS KILLJOY throws a Pink Grenade into our lives with her debut EP. The new release is like a sonic adaptation of the songwriter’s own diary entries, as she takes us on a journey from her life growing up in the suburbs, to her struggles with depression and bullying, as well as the intricacies of her love life.

Touching on an array of themes, Pink Grenade delves into self-exploration, acceptance and everything in between. Despite the release being an honest look into some of her most personal moments, it manages to connect with you in some capacity, making it entirely relatable. LESS shares, “I want people that listen, to somehow feel like they’re being seen and accepted for exactly who they are. As an artist, I’m trying to be fearless with what I share with the world. I don’t want to hide my true feelings about life and the world I live in. I want to be me on and off stage. Authenticity shouldn’t be a selling point in an artist bio… it should be a prerequisite for making music. We all have a voice inside us, the only way I can fail is to ignore that voice. I did that for too long.”

Refusing to be defined by a category, the artist describes her sound as “alt-hop lo-fi shoegaze indie punk. Fuxk a genre,” and to be quite honest she’s not wrong. Pink Grenade is a beautiful amalgam of sounds and styles, jumping all over the place, never allowing you to know what’s around the corner. The anticipation of each track keeps you hooked and wanting more, as the musician keeps you hostage for the entirety of the seven-track EP.
