quami.xyz has returned with his first release since the visuals for "Selfless" came out earlier this month with "i wish i never had you." Since 2018 gave us his debut single, "clementine," the Ontario-born song-writer, producer, and visual artist has gradually mapped out his perspective on relationships, mental health, and the way the world works. His honest, open writing style paired with the inviting, immersive music he has created and worked with challenge listeners to grapple with the problems he's interested in working through and finding answers together. This was perhaps most played out in his coupling of the No One Asked and To Be Born EPs released the last two years. Through these releases and others, a new quami release has meant both inventive instrumental moves and fresh music takes to enjoy but also a new peak into what he's thinking.
"i wish i never had you" is the next step in this journey. Production from Lecx Stacy, Ark Patrol, and quami himself combine for an instrumental both subdued and haunting but driven by a hyper-pop pace. British indie-pop star Viji (formerly of Dirty Hit)adds a shot of citrus to the track's more subdued palette and acts as a really complimentary piece weaving in and out in a back and forth, conversational dissection of the relationship described here.
"i wish i never had you" is available to stream now via THANKS Recordings/ The Orchard. Make sure to keep up with quami and future releases via the links below.
