As singer-songwriter Lyves prepares to release her long-awaited sophomore EP Change which arrives on November 18, she delivers a new single "The System" to whet the listener's appetite. The London-based singer recruits the talent of Mercury-Prize nominated musician Dave Okumu who adds his distinctive guitar backing line and vocals to Lyves' eclectic progressive production. The record starts with a dazzling synth line that slowly progresses into a somber and cinematic piece underpinned by raw melodic runs and vivid storytelling by Lyves who embodies the concept of self-love and growth as part of her healing process. Lines like "I might start shedding off the ones that hate, shedding off that bitter taste/ Healing sometimes clears the way" shows listeners her journey to inner peace. Lyves's commanding vocals do take precedence as usual and Dave's sublime backing harmonies add an ethereal touch to the liberating record.
