Nashville-based singer-songwriter Maria Shockey awakens a sense of solidarity on “Composure,” the title track from forthcoming debut album which comes together in the infectious nook of bubblegum pop and engaging narratives to pulls us into a world where we’re brave enough to be ourselves.
Infusing us with the boost of bravery to show off those sides of ourselves that we hide away, the track empowers to embrace our insecurities and fears as something that someone can love about us.
The track is accompanied by narrative-heavy music video that’s crafted specifically to resonate with everyone regardless of how different each of our life’s story has been.
She explains the idea behind the video: “The polaroids were meant to illustrate how there’s always an image we portray to the world on one side, and the insecurities that hold us back on the other. And also how, towards the beginning of the video, you see my polaroid on the dashboard of the car, seemingly a small part of the storyline, but later on there’s dozens of polaroids of different people surrounding me. It was never just my story, my relationship, or my insecurities being sung about. It’s a little bit of all of us.”
Offering up uplifting thought we all need to hear from time to time, the track is an exciting peek at Shockey’s debut album which is set to span everything from emotive piano ballads to self-love anthems, trap productions and everything in-between, all encapsulated by a nostalgia storytelling style and dreamy instrumentals.
Maria who began releasing her own material only in 2019 has grown quickly with her emotionally honest, heart-on-your sleeve artistry that not just showcases her thoughts but touches upon our feelings in the most comforting of ways.
