Arkansas-based duo joan returns with an infectious alt-pop anthem "don’t wanna be your friend". The track is the first single off of their upcoming full length album set to be released next year via Photo Finish Records.

The twosome wrote "don’t wanna be your friend" right after their largest tour to date. Finding inspiration and energy from their dedicated fanbase, they teamed up with their friend Jon Capeci from the band Nightly to concoct a track all about growing up, leaving a love that doesn't serve you and standing up for your own worth. With lyrics including, "I don't want to sit through coffee / feeling like I'm out of body / every time you come around /I don't want to be your friend / I don't want to just pretend," joan understands that its time to move on and stand your ground against a former lover who makes you feel terrible in the end. "don't wanna be your friend" highlights rich layered vocals singing addictive melodies over candy-dipped synths resulting in a single that is set to become the next mainstream hit. The accompanying video features the comedic side of the two, with the duo becoming a target for an alien invasion.

joan consists of Arkansas-born artists Alan Benjamin Thomas and Steven Rutherford. The two were brought together by their love of music and thrift shopping, soon forming their own band and releasing their debut single "love somebody like you" in 2019. Since then, joan have shared a plethora of much loved left-of-center pop singles and EPs touching fans across the world. Known for their thrilling live shows and ability to bring hope, love and connection to a dedicated community, joan is an exciting and important pop force.
