UK rapper/ songwriter Coops recently put out his new album Lost Soul 2 via Lost Soul Records and now he returns with the visual for the song "Mass Extinction". The song which serves as the closer for the project sees him teaming up with producer Talos, who laces him with a sombre, horn-driven, soulful backdrop to paint vivid pictures. Coops set the tone with his laidback flow, and lyrics that dwell on the weird dynamics of the modern world and the daily struggles faced by people like him. Lines like "march to save the planet then go home and spoil it later/ Cognitive dissonance, societies indifference, highlighting our difference, only fueling our ignorance" explore faux social justice warriors and subtle racism bolstered by social conditioning. He is joined by vocalist Visaka who provides a soothing melodic chorus ripe with soul-stirring and evocative lyrics on pain and finding strength from it.
To celebrate the release, Coops also unveiled a brand new Honey JD-directed video for the single. The video follows Coops and Visaka on a narrow boat on a journey and captures different shots of him performing and just basking in the scenery.
Lost Soul 2 is the seventh full-length release from the prodigious talent. Recorded at Coops’ studio in Hackney, it serves as the sequel to his seminal Lost Soul mixtape.
Coops has also announced details of his debut UK headline tour. The Lost Soul tour will see Coops on the road in October and November with a special hometown show at London’s XOYO on Friday 4th November.
