Rising Swedish pop musician Manda Malina drops melodic ode to queer relationships on “Her Ocean,” led by her breathy vocals over a dreamy synth-pop instrumentation. The seductive ballad which champions lesbian love with unapologetic sensuality and gentle passion is an LGBTQ+ anthem that doesn’t shy away from any aspects of a queer relationship.
With steamy lyrics like “The way she touch me, it’s magic, the way she kiss me / And when she takes off all my clothes, don’t have to speak ‘coz she just knows … I love to ride on her wave and swim in her ocean”, the track is carried by her wispy, falsetto vocal lines laid over a lush, dreamy soundscape.
Striking the perfect balance between sweetly romantic and fierce sexual attraction, “Her Ocean,” draws inspiration from the love and passion shared between the singer and her partner Elena, reinforcing the strength and connection in queer relationships.
Speaking of the track, she said: “There aren't enough love songs about lesbian couples. Most sexy bedroom hits are always about a man and a woman. Same-sex love songs are rarely played on mainstream radio or TV. If they are, they aren't as explicit and honest as heterosexual love — I needed to fill that gap.”
Manda Malina got her breakthrough after being she placed in the Top 7 of Swedish X Factor 2012 and hasn’t looked back since, crafting a musical space brimming with liberation and empowerment, with an upcoming EP centered on WLW love, queerness and female self-love.
With snippets of ‘Her Ocean” going viral on TikTok before release, it’s safe that many are awaiting her future project – with hopes for a lesbian pop soundtrack that makes them feel seen and heard as they dance along.
