British singer-songwriter Josh Northwood is creating his own melting pot of music. His sound is making a unique footprint, consisting of folk and alt-rock elements which merge together underneath a cinematic and ambient soundscape. With this in place he’s already built a reputation as an exciting up-and-coming talent.
His latest offering "Paradise" is an entry into his world. Gentle and vulnerable, the track presents a timid, minimal facade, but keeps us drawn in by his intricate musical detailing. Reverb-drenched pianos are echoed around the track and work hand in glove with a grounding bass. Guitar lines shimmer in the mix creating a wide textural atmosphere. Josh’s voice is silky smooth, haunting and note-perfect, dancing with the guitar lines.
Akin to the likes of Bon Iver, Ben Howard and the more gentle moments of Nothing But Thieves, the track’s melancholic feel, honest yet poetic lyricism and musical beauty take centre stage. Talking about the meaning behind the single, Josh explains: “This track is about how fleeting life is – and how important it is to be present in between the beauty and the pain. I want to be here for it all with my loved ones and with the things I’m most passionate about.”
Having already gained support from the likes of BBC Introducing and gained over 200k streams on Spotify alone, as well as playing shows across the UK, Josh Northwood is now taking his career and his music to the next level- and you won't be able to peel your eyes away.
