Divine ScienZe move in silence with new single "Cool Water"

New York duo Divine ScienZe have connected with Raheem DeVaughn for an easy listening track that's as chill as it is seductive.

“Cool Water” is a soulful collaborative effort between New York emcee Scienze and producer King I Divine. With a little help from singer Raheem DeVaughn, the result is a track that is pious in nature and reflective in thought.

Scienze’s flow on this track is impeccably fluid. The instrumental is very calm and compliments it well, providing an easy rhythm to flow on. His words prove to have real intention behind every syllable, performing a soliloquy between himself and a higher power. “Cool Water” is deeply intimate, with Scienze reflecting on his status on Earth while giving grace and thanks. This provides context for a deeper, more meaningful song that unfolds more and more in its four-minute run time.

Water plays a big motif in the song itself while motivating the elements of the song. This is evident in the fluid, wavy instrumental provided by King I Divine and the vocals by both Scienze and DeVaughn. The instrumental is one of the most important elements present, with Divine’s production sonically creating this emotion through a beat that perfectly matches Scienze’s vocal performance. The drums are actively present but take a step back to give the spotlight to the synth chords. The loops of the synths mimic the movement of waves, which gives it this fluid influx of sound that’s reminiscent of a current moving in ways that aren’t predictable. There’s even an Outkast Elevators sample thrown in the mix. It’s very minor, showing up in the back to let you know that it’s present without being the driving force behind the beat.

Along with the introspective bars are some beautiful harmonies provided by Raheem DeVaughn. The chorus is beautiful with some moments sounding a bit overbearing due to the mixing, but I still thoroughly enjoyed DeVaughn’s contributions. He comes off like a major contributor to the track, performing beyond the means of a normal feature. Such as his voice being used a reoccurring sound element in the instrumental.

All the attributes of the track come together well to create a sonically synergetic listening experience that showcases every contributor working in complete harmony. This is a team effort, and it shows.

The track feels very spiritual, playing into a healing theme present in the lyrical content from Scienze and DeVaughn who guide the listener through a form of prayer in the final 20 seconds of the song. The song starts and ends with a reaffirming message for the audience. That through all the tribulation, “all praises due."

All these conceptual elements culminate in a track that’s incredibly self-reflective and optimistic.
