Hailing from London's Hackney, Amahla touches upon difficult subjects with her outstanding new single "Reason." Having already sold out five headline shows, and with over 4 million streams on Spotify, Amahla is cementing her place as one of the most authentic voices of her generation. Her music is unique and important, covering cultural issues such as gentrification, racial injustice and mental health. On "Reason", she explores her own personal experience of gaslighting, as well as highlighting the commodification of women's bodies & identity.
The track was written in the aftermath of the Roe Vs Wade court decision, as Amahla explains, she wrote "Reason" about the precise moment you realize everything you saw and felt were real and you were being manipulated into thinking otherwise. At the moment it’s hard to find the right words, I wrote "Reason" so I don’t have to."
Furthermore, she began writing "Reason" when the Roe Vs Wade case had been overturned – “whenever women are emotional we’re deemed hysterical, even when our individual and reproductive rights are up for debate. Now marginalized groups are having to fight harder to be believed. I wrote "Reason" with my producer Tev’n. We wanted to write a song that was self-affirming, that song you sing at the top of your lungs to the person who’s wronged you and in that feel power.”
With beautifully expressive harmonies, empowering piano chords and groove-rich drum breaks, "Reason" has the ability to create emotion and evoke meaning – It’s a product of hard work and unique talent, produced alongside one of Neo-Soul's most exciting new producers Tev'n
You can catch Amahla live on the 10th of October at The Omeara, London.
