Jasmine Ortiz is a voice for the voiceless

Jasmine Ortiz is not your ordinary artist; she is multilingual, multi-talented, and is rapidly rising as a pop megastar. Born in NY, this Latina proudly represents her Hispanic heritage from Spain, Puerto Rico and El Salvador. With over 14 million combined views on YouTube for her music videos, it is hard to imagine that Jasmine was originally born without a voice. In fact, Jasmine continues her journey of “finding her voice” as she evolves herself in every aspect of her life.

Originally born with an esophageal trachea fistula, this condition left the top portion of her esophagus disconnected while the bottom portion of her esophagus was connected to her windpipe. After spending over a month in the neonatal ICU undergoing a life-saving surgery shortly after birth, Jasmine had no voice and nothing was audible for almost a year even when she cried.

Motivated to overcome this physical limitation, Ortiz began her own journey of trying to “find her voice”. Although Ortiz was not old enough to express herself with speaking, she took it upon herself at the age of two to hop onto a baby grand piano and tap out a simple melody inside a restaurant while her parents were eating. Ortiz began piano classes which fueled her passion for music.

By the age of six, she was signed to Abrams Artists, the bicoastal agency for acting and modeling, starting a twelve-year working relationship. She composed and performed her first song at the age of 8 in front of an entire school, and received her SAG/AFTRA card by the age of 10, with many acting, modeling, voice over and theatre accolades under her belt which included Nickelodeon and Sesame Street to name a few.

Graduating from one of the Top 25 Arts High Schools in the United States (Charter Arts High School-PA) and double majored in piano and guitar. Jasmine is also multi-instrumental and uses “her voice” through the piano, the guitar, the viola, saxophone, and drums. Having been to over 15 countries by her sophomore year of high school, she is both well-spoken and embraces cultural diversity.

Ortiz later enrolled at the Frost School of Music at The University of Miami and while excelling in school, Ortiz continued to make the Dean’s list and used “her voice” as a Model UN delegate representative winning many competitions in schools such as Harvard, Columbia, and George Washington in DC.

To Ortiz, her life is dedicated to being a voice for the voiceless and is extremely passionate about Women’s Rights, addressing Racial Injustice, developing Humane Immigration Policies, and aspires to reverse the effects of climate change from the corporate level. She is also motivated to make an impact with education reform and increasing funds to public schools to enhance student success.

Being born without a voice, Ortiz has impressively released music in English, Spanish and Chinese. She has achieved notoriety by working hard and in less than a year, she released numerous music videos in different languages: “Miles Away”(English), “Miles Away” (English/Chinese), “Que Sera” (English/Spanish), and “HOT” (English/Spanish).

Her music video for “Intentions” (English/Spanish) was the first to reach over one million views. In less than a year as an independent artist, Ortiz garnered over 3 million views and streams between her videos on YouTube and on other channels, and on Spotify, Audiomack & other streaming platforms. Ortiz truly has a global fanbase.

In 2020, Ortiz transitioned into the mainstream pop market with her single “Trick or Treat” which exceeded over 1.8 Million views on YouTube in the first week which continues to climb.

In January 2021, Ortiz released an up-tempo pop song entitled "Cherry on Top" produced by multi-Platinum producer TRACKDILLA (Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, French Montana).  "Cherry on Top" became an instant hit and has reached over 1.1 Million views on YouTube in 2 weeks and over 113K streams in less than 3 weeks on Spotify alone.

With Ortiz's single "21", she made history by becoming only the second artist approved to film a music video at The University of Miami, second to no other than Drake with his music video for "God's Plan". In just 2 days, the music video for "21" reached 1 million views & continues to climb.

In Fall 2021, the rising singer released her fourth single of the year entitled “When It’s All Done” co-written and produced by Cesar Da Emperor. This single is very symbolic for Ortiz as she continues to evolve her sound and showcases the important of self-love and empowerment; characteristics very important to acquire as she reaches higher milestones.

Continuing to innovate her sound, Ortiz released a new single with Grammy award-nominated producer, Sak Noel (Jennifer Lopez, Maroon 5) and most recently released a remix of her hit single “When It’s All Done”. This remix version is edgier and gives new life to the meaning behind her single of having relief through ending a toxic friendship and getting to truly enjoying life with more genuine relationships.

As Jasmine continues her journey of “finding her voice”, she hopes to inspire others impacted by a physical hurdle to believe that anything is possible when you can convince your mind that you have no limitations. This multi-lingual and fully talented artist is definitely one to keep on your radar not only for her musical capabilities, but for her passion to transform our world in every possible way.
