Feracious and evocative duo Snailmate have just released their latest single for "It's Coming Back!" the first of the year from the Phoenix-based band who first started releasing music in 2017. In "It's Coming Back!", Snailmate explores how nostalgia is sometimes glamorized and to a fault.
The 90's trends and fashion are back with fervor, and Snailmate reminds listeners that not all memories of such a time are happy and filled with positivity.
With lyrics including, "it's coming back / the feeling of inadequacy that I had / it's coming back / the social anxiety that I had / we're swinging in a nostalgia safety net / personally I would rather break my neck", the duo share the troubles they had as their younger selves and how bringing back that time to the current can be painful.
"It's Coming Back!" is an intense sonic fusion of thrash rock, hip hop and punk complete with an infectious layered screamo chorus and daring synths. Fuzzy basslines glide over intense drumming full of emotion for an enthralling must listen.
Snailmate is composed of Kalen Lander (vocals, synths) and Bentley Monet (drums, vocals). For over five years, the two have toured relentlessly playing over a thousand shows and releasing a series of EPs and singles. The band is a part of the LGBTQ+ community and aims for their music and shows to be a safe space for listeners across the globe. With more music to come, we can't wait to hear what is next from this talented and veracious duo.
