Manchester-raised alt-pop artist Sukie shares the bubbly new single "Heart Emoji". A combination of buoyant synths and multicoloured melodies, the single is a glossy track wrapped in nostalgia.
Reminiscing about good times while being young and reckless, the single is a healthy hit of serotonin that encourages you take a trip down memory lane. Textured with alt-pop stylings, "Heart Emoji" is a burst of energy that makes you want to reflect with your pals about all those crazy nights you spent in clubs and making bad decisions. Yet, Sukie says she wrote the track about feeling lonely and missing her friends: "Covid hit when I was in my last year of uni and I ended up moving away from all my friends in the midst of lockdown," says Sukie. Most people I didn’t get to say goodbye to. It was such a crazy contrast going from being surrounded by all my best friends to moving to a city where I knew no-one. I wrote the song about mourning the loss of that carefree life, knowing that I’d never get it back. I feel like this was such a universal feeling at the time, when we were all stuck inside for months on end, and I wanted the music video to capture that lonely experience."
A fizzy, bold offering from a pop artist speaking from personal experience. "Heart Emoji" has found a place in my heart, and I hope it does yours.
