ANISE shares her debut EP, 'Black Eve'

London-based, New York R&B-pop singer, songwriter, and producer ANISE first caught our ears on her "Black Eve" single which serves as the title track of her new EP. The 6-track project sees her working with her longtime writing collaborators Alex Dopierala and Terell ‘Tee’ Farrell and features a wide range of themes such as womanhood, self-empowerment, and divine femininity amongst other related topics.

The EP opens up on a glorious note with the "Rebirth (Intro)" which sounds like the beginning of a movie and seamlessly moves into the previously release "Black Eve." The mid-tempo Afropop-infused experimental R&B track sets the tone perfectly as ANISE exudes her divine feminine strength in an effortless manner. This is followed by "Toulouse" a laidback atmospheric ballad driven by ANISE's layered melodic runs and love-soaked lyrics that see her reveling in the feelings of true love.

On the sensual future R&B record "Obey" she explores the concept of submission and intimacy from her own perspective and implores her significant other to take time to worship her glorious physical frame. Her performance here is quite gripping as she starts off mellow and slowly builds up her vocals to a fevering pitch whenever she wants to emphasize the act and also towards the chorus section.

The soundscape switches up on "Kinfolk" which makes use of a pop/trap backdrop, perfect for ANISE to be as carefree as a horse in the fields. It's pretty much just a fun track riddled with catchy melodic phrases and a bouncy beat to boot. The project closes out with the atmospheric sounds of "Grades" where she delivers a reflective and soothing performance while detailing her process of finding inner peace. The production on this tune is cinematic and dynamic, as it starts really soft with padded strings and slowly rises into a plateau with her vocals heightened as well. Listeners are in for a treat for at least three minutes of pure vocal bliss which ends the project superbly.

The London-based singer is in full bloom now and after a handful of releases has now delivered her debut Black Eve EP, She adds via email that each song's soundscape represents the five elements of nature – water, air, earth, fire, and space. She also includes a documentary that you can watch via Vimeo here.
