Vocab Slick shares visuals for "What It Is" ahead of 'Language' LP

With his long-awaited Language LP finally set to drop in October, Vocab Slick ramps up the hype for the project with the stylish new video for “What It Is.” The track is produced by longtime collaborator Surebert who crafts a bass-heavy backdrop for Slick to go the whole nine with the pen. form the jump, the rapper makes it known that he is not here to play and packs more than a handful of literary devices to convey his thoughts. From the internal rhyme scheme, hyperbolic lyrical imagery, and no-nonsense flow, the result is a crash course in lyrics 101 for those who might not recognize the man's verbal skills. He even peppers the track with a carefree melodic chorus just to show that he can do anything he wants and it works to the tee.

As for the slick visuals, Starski is on directorial duties and captures Vocab Slick in his true element as a performer doing what he knows best, like talking ish to the camera in different moody aesthetics and set pieces. Another contributor, BREEDSWORLD tidies it up with some smooth visual effects that take make use of several Naruto characters. It’s a fitting setup for “What It Is,” primarily because the track itself does lean into the slightly darker side of the rapper’s mindset. With good reason, of course, because he’s clearly tired of all the BS, like other people trying to weigh him down with their unfounded opinions and criticisms.

Get "What It Is" on all DSPs here. His full-length project The Language LP is due out Oct. 29 via DR Music. The release will be supported with a West Coast tour that’ll kick off on Nov 3-20th, with an exact schedule to be announced.
