Rising from the depths of darkness, emerging artist Forest shares her eerie debut single "Kingdom". An insight into her world of powerful sonics and moving lyricism, the single is a bold introducing from the London newcomer.
A waltz through the mind of someone who's inspired by dark fantasy dramas like The Witcher, "Kingdom" is an exploration into musical textures. Building a brooding backdrop while layering haunting, ethereal Celtic-inspired vocals, the track conjures up vivid imagery and intrigues you into wanting to listen to more. With the stormy fusion of sounds and medieval hints of driving tribal rhythms drawing parallels to a magical world, it's evident that Forest's own brand of 'Celtic Noir' has us all yearning for more mystery.
Speaking to us about the release, Forest says: ”I've always been intrigued by magic and fairy tales. Disney sparked what Lord of The Rings then took over and it’s grown ever since. With the recent popularity of shows such as The Witcher and The Last Kingdom for example, I often find myself wanting to escape and explore with these characters and the realms in which they reside and so they became a source of inspiration for me."
"The journey to this point has been an extremely difficult one. I've struggled for years to find and create a sound that I felt came from within and represented the artist I wanted to be. (other creatives will get me on this, it's hell on earth when what you're making isn't translating from what's on your heart) It's taken a huge amount of time, effort, support and battling old belief systems to get here, to finally share something I've created and to share it on my birthday is hugely significant for me. I cannot believe I'm finally releasing my debut original single and I am so grateful to the people that never stopped believing in me, who have ultimately got me to this point. Now, the fun begins."
It's clear that "Kingdom" wouldn't sound out of place on any Netflix fantasy drama, its melodic, almost chamber-pop sounding melodies are intriguing and ever so slightly beguiling. Forest has captured the essence of the brilliance of dark and moody soundscapes.
