Long standing residents of Paisley’s infamous Club 69, Co-Accused are no stranger to evil beats and the depths of the underground. Launching their own label, Co-Accused Records, the duo debut with an intensely dark four-track EP — complete with a remix from electro mainstay Jensen Interceptor. Psychonaut Society explores the realms of techno and electro, winding through the moods and energy you would expect to find in the duo’s live sets.
Title track “Psychonaut Society” grabs listeners by the throat with booming bass and dynamic breaks from the get-go. Moody synths push things into darker territory, making it feel as though we’re teetering on the edge of a black hole. The Jensen Interceptor remix kicks things into overdrive with frenzied drums and energy aplenty; in true Mikey Melas style, it’s giving pedal-to-the-metal warehouse vibes. Laced with electronic whirls, it’s manic in the best way possible.
“Wormhole Warzone” is exactly what you might expect, and ten times more. Four-to-the-floor techno is married with lashings of electro-tinged fx to create what really can only be described as a wormhole warzone. A relentless journey through the heavier sounds of techno, it’s the hypnotic number we all need in our lives. Things are brought to a close with a standout on the EP, “Restricted Access”. Bouncy, chaotic electro at its finest, this one is four minutes of pure fun — and isn’t that what we all need a bit of right now?
