Brooklyn-based artist Aubrey Haddard crafts an intoxicating indie-pop triumph with her latest offering “Portuguese Red.” The accompanying music video showcases the singer traversing through an urban cityscape at night. With shining lights and glittery gold disco feels, the visuals possess magical electric energy. This shimmering synth-pop ballad is a narration of a chance meeting that led to so much more.
Of the new track, Haddard admits in a statement, “The song is about the night I met my partner in 2016. We met at a venue in Williamsburg where our bands were sharing a bill. We shared our first kiss in the middle of a crosswalk on Berry Street. Later in his Brooklyn apartment, I sat on the kitchen countertop and he pulled out a half-empty bottle of wine from the fridge that we never finished as we quickly fell in love. I asked ‘If I were a wine, what would I be?’ and he told me I’d be a Portuguese Red.”
Aubrey Haddard has a captivating spirit that seeps through her music. Inspired by talents like Jeff Buckley and Kate Bush, she is drawn to their masterful artistry and profound depth. Detailing her personal life experiences so candidly, she encourages others to portray that same vulnerability. Haddard’s serene sound that emits a flood of raw emotion makes her penetrating releases like "Portuguese Red" a true listening pleasure.
