Swiss-Canadian debutant Alicia Clara, champions lo-fi, '80s-via-'90s-themed nostalgia on her first offering, "Closing Time at the Gates."
A dusty soft synth opens "Closing Time at the Gates," granting acres of space for the first taste of her distinctive voice; a perfect harmony of syrupy sweet and lackadaisically icy. An expertly executed moment of silence firmly grabs your attention before the chorus unfurls into a neon-tinged, borderline gloomy synth-pop ballad. Compounding the nostalgia, the visual applies a multitude of antiquated visual trappings which overall, crafts something that truly feels out of place in time.
"Closing Time at the Gates" is out now, and will feature on her forthcoming debut EP, coming later this year.
