Ekiti Sound is an afro-electronic fusion project spearheaded by British-Nigerian producer/vocalist Leke aka CHiF. His debut release ABEG NO VEX, which literally means "sorry, don't be angry," is a 15-track body of work that pushes the boundaries of electronic music, west African percussions, and overall contemporary musical traditions. The worldwide appreciation of the album inspired Ekiti Sound to invite producers from across the globe to remix some of his tracks. This birthed his newest release Abeg No Vex (The Remixes Vol 1), and ultimately the video for the focus track, the Stan-ley & BeatSoul remix of "A Song For Lara" was shot.
The remix is helmed by London producers Stan-ley & BeatSoul who blends a plethora of sounds and elements to create this enthralling piece of art. Using pulsating kicks and striking bare-bones percussions against the chilling vocals sung in the Yoruba language, the track slowly builds and takes form as the singer's intensity and passion rise. I am not totally privy to the exact meaning of the words but it sounds like a prayer or some type of chant to the Gods.
The visual was shot around a small eclectic spot called Bar Bar and follows Leke as he enjoys the company of a host of friends. The aesthetics are pretty slick and the video feels like a DIY documentary with quick cuts capturing the myriad of things going on around Leke. The video also features his fellow Lagos underground acts such as DJ Ayizan, Pastagoras amongst others.
