If you could imagine what a sunset-orange lava lamp sitting atop an end table in a modern-day L.A apartment would sound like, then Tim Atlas' "Tangerine" would probably be the song you'd hear. The quirky, R&B-infused soul singer has made his return with a new song, a new colour scheme, and a new video to tell you all about it.
"Tangerine" is the latest track to be released from Atlas' forthcoming sophomore EP, Together Lonely. Continuing on the exploration of social anxiety and the marks of an introverted personality, the seven-track EP introduces a new theme that we haven't seen before, that of colour. On his newest single, Atlas draws from the colour orange, representative of someone understated and quiet whilst being the most beautiful and compelling. Mirroring that energy, the video bursts with thematic symmetry in a tangerine-hued sequence of events. Atlas shyly coasts from room to room amidst a hushed party, unable to strike up a conversation, but somehow able to pull off some sly synchronized dance moves.
The track is slow and hazy, rising in moments of percussive inspiration, before falling back again into the arms of its kaleidoscopic synths. It's a fine dance between the part of Atlas that wants to and the voice that tells him not to. And a dance that we'll be watching mesmerized for days to come in anticipation of his EP dropping on November 8th.
