For any of us dreaming of summer days on the beach, Hydromag is back to help satiate that desire with his new single “When I Try.” The Falmouth-based multi-instrumentalist and bedroom producer is known for putting out engaging music that extends beyond its modest origins and this new song does not disappoint. Inspired by Hydromag’s affinity for the beaches of Cornwall, “When I Try” is the second single off of his forthcoming EP This Is Fleeting.
After opening with a brief moment of synth pads and sounds of birds chirping, the track then settles into its light yet driving beat that maintains the momentum throughout. Hydromag has an understated vocal delivery that pairs nicely with the song’s gentle, shimmery production. An uncredited guest vocalist joins in for the second verse, and they carry on peacefully together for the remainder of the song, giving it an extra dimension of loving interplay. “When I Try” is a pleasant outing for Hydromag that shows off his tasteful aesthetic and clearly strong production skills.
