Yasmeen Al-Mazeedi is a classically trained violinist, vocalist, producer, and songwriter based out of Los Angeles who has been lending her talents to world-renowned symphony orchestras & recording artists since the age of 16. After collaborating with household names such as Teyana Taylor, Desiigner, NAS, San Holo, The Game, Vic Mensa, Jaymes Young, Alessia Cara, Mike Dean, and Charlie Heat, Yasmeen has finally embarked on releasing her own solo material under the alias YAS, debuting her first infectious pop-leaning single "Poison" back in July.
YAS has now given EARMILK the opportunity to debut her follow up single "Ride", featuring fellow singer-songwriter KOLE. The single is an ode to self-reliance and female empowerment, Yas explains in a statement about the creation of the song:
Sonically I wanted the track to represent all of the different musical influences in my life. The Arabic scale used in the chord progression comes from my ethnic background, while the booming 808s and hi-hats are a nod to the hip hop community where I got my start doing violin session work. And it wouldn’t be a YAS track without an instrumental string break or two.
As a woman in the music industry it can feel like you’re in constant competition with every other woman you meet for a spot in the boy’s club. KOLE and I wanted to challenge that notion by collaborating on a track that seeks to encompass the complicated realities of being a woman in this business.
